Azam Dashti Khavidaki is a PhD student at McGill’s Department of Integrated Studies Education and Vice President for Education Graduate Student Society at McGill, QC, Canada. She is honoured to hold an FRQSC doctoral grant, to be a Digital Research Alliance of Canada Champion and awardee, and to work as a fellow with both the Participatory Cultures Lab and the Sustainable Education Faculty Fellows program. Born and raised in Khavidak, Iran, she first earned an M.A. in English Literature at one of Iran’s top universities, then completed a second M.A. in Education at McGill. As a champion of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, her doctoral interdisciplinary research spans Generative AI, participatory research, ethics, and the right to safe information. With over a decade of teaching and curriculum design experience across all levels—including higher education —she explores how inadequate digital infrastructure limits learning and development, and how generative AI, large language models, and AI-driven educational platforms introduce risks, automated decisions, and discrimination. Grounded in the UN SDGs, her project addresses these challenges. The project centres children’s and youth’s perspectives and bridges theory, design, practical actions, and policy decisions.
