Catherine Huard

PsyD/ PhD Candidate

Catherine Huard is a doctoral candidate in psychology in Université du Québec à Montréal, following a professional background as an actress and singer. Her research interests lie in the therapeutic potential of art in clinical contexts, as well as in its epistemological value—as a means of generating knowledge that can inform and enrich academic research. She has published a study exploring the lived experiences of street gang members as expressed through their slam poetry and rap lyrics. Her doctoral project is a participatory, arts-based research initiative involving children from migrant families with precarious legal status. The project seeks to promote and explore well-being through the use of songs within a narrative approach. She holds a scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). She also practices psychodynamically oriented clinical psychology with children and their families.
